The Institute of Avian Research "Vogelwarte Helgoland" (IAR) is a non-university research institution in the portfolio of the Lower Saxonian Ministry of Science and Cultural Affairs.
Principally the Institute conducts basic research into the complex relationships between birds and their organic and inorganic environments.
The central focus of our scientific activities is research into bird migration. We are also the Bird Ringing (banding) Centre for Northwest Germany.
